Dr. Jack Kevorkian, a well known doctor who stepped beyond the realms of the modern day and performed consenting merciful assisted death for nearly a decade, has passed away at the age of 83. This man has been on my mind for so many years, and while some may beguile him as a murderer – I consider him a saint. One of my worst nightmares of the older years is that stretch of life where you’ve been diagnosed with a life-ending disease (such as Lou Gehrig’s disease, or late-stage testicular cancer) and the only option is to ride it out until the end. How inhumane is that? In this world, at this juncture of time, we have the technology to peacefully and painlessly neutralize suffering in the most final way. I’ve always wanted that option in the future, considering the only person effected would be me.
My hearts out to this man, you have walked against the grain of society, and showed compassion by helping those that could only achieve the same outcome through far more painful methods. Everyone dies, let those that are against the proverbial wall end it on their own terms with dignity.
